Barnsley's Targeted Youth Support Service

Barnsley's Targeted Youth Support provides targeted service for children and young people aged 8-24 with SEND and their siblings.​
There are many ways in which young people can benefit from attending targeted youth support provision, such as:​

  • Developing appropriate and positive relationships with other children and young people and adults.​
  • Increasing their confidence and self-esteem, independence and resilience.​
  • Feeling more confident in making informed and healthy lifestyles choices.​
  • Improving communication skills.​
  • Working together as part of a group or independently.​
  • Developing new learning and skills.​
  • Developing positive friendships.​
  • Participating in new and unfamiliar opportunities and activities.​
  • Recognising the achievements of themselves and their peers.​
The Targeted Youth Support Service SEND provision operates on a referral only basis
Young people up to 25 years of age can also be referred for 1:1 support with an Early Intervention worker from Targeted Youth Support through Early Help if this is appropriate for them

This support offer is for people:​


  • aged 13 to 24 who have an education, health and care plan (EHCP)​
  • aged 13 to 24 who are in care or a care leaver​
  • aged 16 to 19 and not in education, employment or training (NEET)​
  • aged 16 to 18 and working with the youth offending service
