In Barnsley, we look at each family’s needs carefully to decide what support may be helpful. Once the assessment is complete, the worker will share the information with the multi-agency short break panel.
The panel will then decide whether a short break is the right support for your child or young person, and what type of short break would best meet their needs.
If a short break is agreed, it will usually be reviewed within the first 6 months, and then once a year after that. Reviews help make sure the support is still right for your child and family. Depending on your child’s needs at the time, the support may increase, stay the same or reduce.
Barnsley Council must review all short break support each year. It is important to take part in the review process so we can make sure the right support stays in place. If we are unable to complete a review, the short break may be paused or ended, but we will always contact you first and give you opportunities to take part before any decisions are made.
