What is a Parent Carer Needs Assessment?

A Parent Carer Needs Assessment is a chance to talk about how caring for your child affects your day-to-day life, wellbeing, health, work, relationships and other responsibilities. It helps identify what support may make things easier for you and your family.
It is not a test of your parenting or something you can pass or fail. A Parent Carer Needs Assessment will be undertaken alongside and assessment of your child or young person.

It can be completed in different ways:

  • by phone
  • face to face with a practitioner
  • or independently by filling it in yourself and returning it
The assessment can take up to 45 working days to be completed.

How to request a Parent Carer Needs Assessment

You can ask for a Parent Carer Needs Assessment by contacting Barnsley’s Integrated Front Door or by speaking to a Social Care Practitioner already working with your family.

If you are not already working with a practitioner, you can contact the Integrated Front Door on 01226 772423

If your child or young person is already working with the Disabled Children's Team you can contact them on 01226 774050.
