Disabled Persons Railcard

What does it offer?

The Disabled Persons Railcard is for people with a disability that makes travelling by train hard. Disabled Young People over 16 years old can get 1/3 off adult fares.
If you're travelling with another adult they will also get 1/3 off their rail fare.
It can be used at any time of day.

Am I eligible?

You will be eligible if you:
  • get Personal Independence Payments (PIP)
  • get Disability Living Allowance (DLA) at either: the higher or lower rate for the mobility component, or the higher or middle rate for the care component.
  • have a visual impairment
  • have a hearing impairment
  • have epilepsy

How do I apply?

What about children under 16?

5-15 year olds can be the named cardholder on a Disabled Persons Railcard, but as child fares aren't covered by the card it means that only the adult with them would get the discount until they’re 16. The adult would need to apply using the child's name, as this is the name that needs to go onto the card and the adult would only need to put their name into the payment section of the application.

The best option for children with a disability under16 years old would be to purchase the 'Family and Friends Railcard' as this would cover the adult travelling with the child but also give them an extra 60% off the child fare.
