Early Years SEND Toolkit

The Barnsley Early Years SEN Support Inclusion Toolkit provides guidance for Early Years settings, schools and services on identifying and meeting the special educational needs (SEN) of children in the early years. The Toolkit also offers support on working with parents and carers to meet the needs of all children. You can download a copy here

Early Years Developmental Progress Tool

The Early Years Developmental Progress Tool has been developed for Early Years settings and schools to use with families of children who are making small-stepped progress in the areas of learning and development in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The tool supports:
  • a shared understanding of developmental stage
  • identification of relative strengths and priorities for development
  • planning of next steps
  • monitoring and celebrating small-stepped progress over time.
Portage Service have developed a short training Webinar for Early Years (EY) Developmental Progress Tool for Early Years practitioners to support a shared understanding of the Early Years Developmental Progress Tool and how to use it.
This webinar is primarily aimed at practitioners working in Barnsley educational settings but may also be useful for colleagues in Barnsley services working with settings and/or families of early years children.

The webinar can be accessed individually but would be most useful to watch as a whole staff team to support discussion and reflection alongside informing practice in applying the tool. It's important to watch the video before using the tool, and there is an evaluation to be completed at the end of the webinar, to provide feedback alongside evidence as part of individuals ongoing CPD record.

The training webinar and the Early Years Developmental Progress Tool can be accessed via the Education Inclusion Services Events webpage.

SEN Support Inclusion Framework Toolkit

The SEN Inclusion Framework Toolkit  shows how a graduated response
to SEND in schools can help ensure good and improving outcomes for all pupils. The toolkit is the
result of much hard work of many people drawn from across a range of schools in Barnsley. It has been
co-produced with professionals including SENDCOs and Head Teachers, specialist staff and parents
and carers of children with SEND. You can download a copy here
