Short Breaks for under 7's

If you apply for a short break and your child is under 5 years old, they will start their short breaks in an Early Years childcare setting, either with a childminder or in a nursery.

Whichever setting you choose, they will get to enjoy a wide range of activities such as:

  • Sensory Play
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Outdoor Play
  • Storytelling and Music
  • Games
  • Adapted Sports and Physical Activities
  • Cooking or Baking Sessions
  • Relaxation and Quiet Time

If they are already going to a nursery or other childcare setting it may be possible for them to have their short breaks there too!

Children aged between 5 - 7 can go to holiday clubs, out-of-school clubs, or use a childminder. They will have a fantastic time for a few hours per week while you recharge your batteries, do the life admin, or treat yourself.

Need help to find a setting?

Visit the Virtual Family Hub Childcare Search, our childcare search lets you look for childcare in your local area, and read a little bit about what they offer, including how they welcome and include children with additional needs.

You will be able to read their latest Ofsted report and find all the contact details you need to get in touch. We recommend having a chat with the SENCO, Childminder or Nursery Manager about your child's individual needs and where possible arrange to visit the setting to make sure it's a good fit, and you feel confident that your child will enjoy themselves.

You can also ring the Family Hubs Team on 0800 0345 340 and ask for help finding a short break provider for a child under 7.
