Little Journey

The Little Journey smartphone app is a guide that takes children and their carers on a tour from the waiting room to the operating room around Barnsley Hospital, all through smartphone devices.

Imagine animated doctors, nurses, popping up on your screen, ready to show you around and answer all your questions. There are characters like a koala nurse and a rhinoceros doctor who are designed to help youngsters feel at ease.

Barnsley Hospital Services

If your GP can't treat you, you may be referred to Barnsley Hospital for an appointment with a specialist team who can investigate your symptoms further, and offer specialist treatment, and sometimes follow-up appointments.


If you have an accident or need emergency care you can visit Barnsley A&E without an appointment, otherwise ring 111 for advice.

Adult Epilepsy Services

Barnsley adult epilepsy nursing service provides specialist care for people who have a diagnosis of epilepsy, their carers and their families. The service aims to help people to gain effective seizure control without medication side effects. The service provides individualised care to empower people to manage their epilepsy through medicines management, education, lifestyle support and counselling. The epilepsy nurses work closely with the consultant neurologist at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. They also work with general practitioners and other healthcare professionals to provide seamless care.

Adult diabetes

The Robert Hague Centre for Diabetes is based at Barnsley Hospital, the centre is named after one of our past consultants in recognition of his work within the hospital and his service to the patients of Barnsley.
The department provides a range of hospital-based diabetes and endocrinology services

Children's Diabetes

The Barnsley Children and Young People’s Diabetes Team is made up of paediatric consultant, specialist paediatric diabetes nurses, specialist paediatric diabetes dietitians and a psychologist.
We work closely with children, young people and their families to help them achieve optimal diabetes management and to lead a healthy and happy life. We support children and their families to achieve optimal blood glucose control. Working closely with nurseries, schools and colleges to support our children and young adults through education.

Adult Continence Services

The continence and urology service provides specialist bladder and bowel assessment, treatment and management for service users with an identified incontinence problem.
We offer specialist assessment in a clinical setting or in the individual’s own home for patients deemed housebound. Assessments can include bladder scans where necessary and will take into account bladder and bowel history, lifestyle and environmental factors in order to determine the most appropriate treatment method. Possible medications are suggested when needed – staff will discuss and identify all possible side effects and advantages, and the correct method of administration of medication. We also provide a referral to other agencies if appropriate.
