Early Help

Early help means working with you and your family so that small problems don’t get bigger. Early Help is for families with children and young people 0-19, and up to 25 if the young person has a disability.

How do I get Early Help?
Talk to a professional who knows your family the best. It could be school, someone at your young persons college, your GP, or any professional who supports your family.

Tell them what’s working well and what you are worried about. You may have an idea about what you need, and what you think will help your family and this will be the starting point. They will talk to you to understand what is happening and what help you and your family need.

If you are not currently working with any professionals contact a member of the Family Hubs team on 0800 0345 340 option 2 and ask about Early Help.

Targeted Youth Support

Our Targeted Youth Support Service brings together various agencies to help young people who are at risk or facing difficulties. They offer early help to prevent problems from getting worse.

The service supports children and young people aged 8-19 (up to 25 with additional needs) with staff from Barnsley Council, NHS, Lifeline, South Yorkshire Police, and the Probation Service. They work together to help young people make a positive transition into adulthood.

  • Health and emotional support (confidence building, self-esteem, anger management)
  • Addressing risky behaviours (sex, drugs, alcohol)
  • Sexual health advice (contraception, STI screening)
  • Promoting positive relationships
  • Diversion from crime and anti-social behaviour
