Midwife appointments

Midwife appointments are a wonderful opportunity to discuss feeding, and they should provide you with some information to kickstart your feeding journey.
Once your baby is born, you will receive support from midwives and other health professionals whilst you are on the birthing suite or post natal ward. All staff on the ward are trained to be able to support breastfeeding mothers with positioning and attachment.

When you have been discharged from the hospital, a midwife will visit you at home, where they can still support any feeding needs you may have.

Barnsley Hospital Infant Feeding Team

Barnsley Hospital Maternity Services has its own Infant Feeding Team. The hospital Infant Feeding Team can support you in the antenatal period if you wish to harvest your colostrum. If this is something you would like to discuss further, you can email

The hospital infant feeding team also offer antenatal sessions. See the 2024 sessions below:
The hospital infant feeding team can support with any queries antenatally regarding feeding or medical complication concerns. This may include an antenatal plan for women that have complex needs who are wishing to breastfeed.

After your baby is born you will receive support whilst you are in the hospital.
