Barnsley offers a range of antenatal programmes to help you prepare for birth, parenthood and life with your baby.
Whether you are a first-time parent or looking for a refresher, there is a programme that's right for you. 

Understanding the Different Programmes 

Welcome to the World (Family Hubs) 

For Parents from 24 weeks pregnant who want to learn about their baby's development and preparing for family life 
Five-week antenatal programme from 24 weeks of pregnancy. 
Focuses on baby development, bonding, caring for your baby and preparing for family life. 

HENRY Preparation for Parenthood (Family Hubs) 

For Parents from around 20 weeks pregnant who want to prepare for parenthood and build confidence 
Six-week programme from around 20 weeks of pregnancy. 
Supports healthy pregnancy, healthy lifestyles, emotional wellbeing and confidence for becoming a parent 

Togetherness Online Antenatal Programmes: Understanding pregnancy, labour, birth and baby 

For Parents who prefer flexible online learning that can fit around work and family commitments 

Barnsley Hospital Antenatal Education Classes 

For Parents wanting detailed information about labour, birth and hospital maternity care 
Midwife-led classes covering labour, birth, pain relief, induction, feeding, bathing your baby and preparing for birth 

Triple P Baby (professional referral only)   

For Parents needing / wanting extra parenting support covering bonding with baby, understanding baby’s cues, responding to crying, developing routines, looking after parent wellbeing, building confidence and linking families to follow-up 1:1 support where needed.

Simple Explanation for Families  

The midwifery classes help you prepare for birth and medical care.
The Family Hub groups help you prepare for your baby, your relationship with them and life as a parent.

Welcome to the World

Welcome to the World is a 5-week antenatal programme for all expectant parents from 24-weeks of pregnancy. It will help you learn skills to bond with and care for your baby. The sessions are delivered in person by a programme leader.

What to Expect:

We will cover a range of topics, including:
  • Understanding your baby
  • Baby’s brain development
  • Your future as parents and as a family
  • Your roots, traditions, hopes and fears for the future
  • Breastfeeding and the practical tasks of caring for a new baby
  • The need to look after ourselves
  • How to book:

  • Please note each adult attending must book a place.

Preparing for Parenthood

Preparing for Parenthood is a 6-week antenatal programme that supports all expectant parents from 20 weeks of pregnancy to birth.

It helps families give babies and young children a healthy start in life by providing practical support and information. The sessions are delivered online by a programme leader.


What to Expect:

  • We will cover a range of topics, including:
  • Becoming a parent
  • A healthy pregnancy and new born stage
  • Bonding with baby
  • Caring for baby – safe sleep, bathing, and soothing a crying baby
  • Giving Birth

Triple P for Baby

Triple P for Baby is a 4-week programme for expectant parents and carers (from 24-weeks of pregnancy to baby being 1 year old) who need more help getting ready for their little one’s arrival or adjusting to life now baby is here.

In addition to the weekly group sessions, you will also receive up to 4 follow up phone calls to see how you are getting on.


What to Expect:

We will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Building a strong relationship with your baby
  • Babies’ brain development
  • Your future as parents and as a family
  • Responding to babies’ needs and information about babies’ crying and sleep
  • The need to look after ourselves

Understanding Pregnancy, Labour, Birth, and Your Baby – a short online antenatal programme

This is a free antenatal programme that you can do at a time that suits you. It will help you get prepared for baby’s arrival.

This programme covers:

  • Getting to know your baby in the womb
  • You, your baby and the stages of labour
  • Helping you and your baby through labour and birth
  • Feeding your baby
  • Who’s the Daddy now? – I’m the Daddy!
  • After your baby is born

You, Me and Baby Too - a short online programme for expectant or new parents

This is a free online programme for expectant or new parents that you can do at a time that suits you. Having a new baby can be such an exciting event, but it can also bring added pressure to a relationship.

This programme will help you and your partner prepare for the changes to your relationship when a little one arrives.


This programme covers:

  • Dealing with daily stresses together
  • Supporting each other as a couple
  • Communicating with your partner in a healthy way

Antenatal Education Classes for Expectant Parents (2 day course)

This programme is delivered by Barnsley Hospital Maternity Service.

Covering essential topics such as:

  • Pain relief in labour
  • Induction of labour
  • Feeding and bathing your baby and more.

Breastfeeding Antenatal Education

This programme covers:
• How to harvest colostrum antenatally
• How to breastfeed
• What to expect with a new born and in the first few weeks
