Helping families get the right support

Changes to make support simpler, earlier and more joined up

We are changing how services work together in Barnsley so children, young people and families can get the right help at the right time.
The changes are part of our Stronger Together approach, they are about making support easier to understand, simpler to access and better connected around your family.

Find out what this could mean for you and how you can have your say.

What this means for families

  • You should not have to tell your story lots of times
  • You will be listened to and involved in decisions about support
  • Services will work together so help feels more joined up
  • Support will look at the whole family and what matters most to you

If you need help now, speak to a trusted professional such as your school, health visitor, family support worker or social worker.

What you can expect

One conversation
We will listen to you, understand what matters most, and agree with you what help would make the biggest difference.
Joined-up support
Schools, health, social care and other services will work together, share information safely, and make decisions with you.
Support for the whole family
We will look at what is going well and what support may help.
Support will focus on your whole family, not just one person.
What won’t change
You will still be supported if you need help.
Professionals will continue to keep children safe You will be treated with respect and kindness.
The right help at the right time
Whether you need advice, early help, support for your family or more specialist help, we will guide you to the right people.

What happens next?

We are introducing these changes step by step.
You may notice new ways to contact services and more people working together to support your family.
Have your say
We will work with children, young people and families over the coming months to hear your views and shape the changes together.

To find out more or get involved, speak to your school, health visitor, family support worker or social worker, or email
